NJLCA Members Unite to Create Healing Garden for Children of Abuse
On Saturday, June 8th, members of the New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association (NJLCA) came together for a heartfelt mission: to transform an old rooftop courtyard into a vibrant outdoor oasis for the children at the Audrey Hepburn Children’s House in Hackensack, NJ—a safe haven for young victims of abuse.
Led by NJLCA Board Member Ben Heller of Root Landscape Architecture, who also designed the project and brought it to the association’s attention, the initiative involved removing aging, weathered wooden planters, seating, and tables and replacing them with fresh, colorful planters overflowing with a variety of cheerful annuals and calming perennials. The makeover turned the space into a bright, welcoming area where children can now play, learn about gardening, and find moments of peace and healing.
Despite several weather-related delays that pushed the installation back more than a month, the skies finally cleared long enough for volunteers to get to work.
NJLCA members generously donated materials including plants, soil, mulch, and equipment, and many gave their time and labor to bring the project to life. We extend our deepest gratitude to the following companies who contributed to this meaningful effort:
All Service Contractors Equipment
Impact Irrigation Consulting
This project is a shining example of the NJLCA community’s commitment to using their skills and passion to make a positive impact—not just in the industry, but in the lives of those who need it most.
